WHY SEATTLE PROFESSIONALS NEED A LOCAL NUTRITION SPECIALIST
Living and working in Seattle creates unique challenges that impact your gut, mental, and metabolic health
-
☔ SEATTLE'S CLIMATE & MENTAL HEALTH
With an average of 150 rainy days per year and limited sunlight from October through May, Seattle residents face vitamin D deficiency affecting 75% of the population, increased rates of seasonal affective disorder, and disrupted circadian rhythms. This directly impacts serotonin production, gut health, and metabolic function. I specialize in nutritional strategies that support neurotransmitter production and combat Seattle's seasonal mental health challenges through targeted supplementation and food-based mood support.
-
🍔 FOOD CONFUSION & CONFLICTING ADVICE
Seattle's health-conscious culture means you're bombarded with contradictory nutrition information daily—keto vs. vegan, intermittent fasting vs. intuitive eating, supplements vs. whole foods. The average Seattle professional wastes $2,000+ annually on trendy diets, cleanses, and supplements that don't address their specific needs. I cut through the noise with personalized, science-based recommendations that actually work for YOUR unique biochemistry, not generic one-size-fits-all approaches.
-
💼 TECH INDUSTRY STRESS & GUT HEALTH
Seattle's booming tech sector means chronic stress from long hours at Amazon, Microsoft, and startups. I’m not going to lie guys, I hear your stories of how those long days impact your mental health and subsequently your food choices. Chronic stress devastates gut health by disrupting the gut-brain axis, increasing inflammation, and triggering conditions like IBS, SIBO, and leaky gut. The average tech worker experiences 3-5 digestive symptoms weekly. I address the root cause with stress-modulating nutrients, gut-healing protocols, and sustainable strategies that work with your demanding schedule.
-
☕ COFFEE CULTURE & BLOOD SUGAR CHAOS
Seattle's legendary coffee culture means many professionals consume 3-5 specialty drinks daily, adding 500-1,000 calories while disrupting blood sugar balance and creating metabolic dysfunction. High caffeine intake on an empty stomach damages gut lining, increases cortisol, and triggers anxiety. I help you navigate Seattle's coffee scene while stabilizing blood sugar, healing your gut, and maintaining steady energy without the crashes.
-
🚗 COMMUTE STRESS & INFLAMMATORY EATING
Seattle's traffic congestion means 30-45 minute commutes each way, leading to grab-and-go meals, skipped breakfasts, and reliance on inflammatory convenience foods. This pattern disrupts gut health, spikes cortisol, and creates metabolic dysfunction. I create realistic meal prep strategies for commuters that support gut healing, stabilize blood sugar, and work with your actual lifestyle—not an idealized version of it.
-
🍣 RESTAURANT SCENE & HIDDEN TRIGGERS
From Pike Place Market to Capitol Hill's diverse restaurants, Seattle's food scene is amazing but challenging when you have food sensitivities, gut issues, or metabolic concerns. Dining out 4-5 times per week exposes you to inflammatory oils, hidden sugars, gluten cross-contamination, and gut-disrupting additives. I provide restaurant guides and strategies to enjoy Seattle's culinary offerings while protecting your gut health and maintaining metabolic balance.

Insurance FAQ
-
I am in network with most major insurance companies including Regence, Premera, Aetna, First Choice Health, Lifewise, Anthem BCBS, and United. If you don’t see yours listed shoot me an email and I can help. To see if our nutrition services are covered by your insurance company, please check with your insurance by asking these questions:
Do I have insurance coverage for nutrition, nutritional counseling, medical nutrition therapy, or dietary surveillance under preventative services?
What is my Out-of-Network and In-Network coverage? Is the provider Lisa Ackerman considered In-Network?
Do I need a PCP (Primary Care Physician) referral or pre-authorization to schedule appointments?
Do only certain diagnoses qualify for nutrition counseling coverage? If so, which diagnoses qualify?
Do I have a deductible to cover? If so, how much? Do I need to fulfill the deductible before my insurance will begin covering sessions?
How many nutrition sessions do I get per year or per lifetime?
Do I have a co-pay/coinsurance? If so, how much per visit?)
A WFW note on insurance coverage:
Unfortunately, some major health insurances rely on outdated and weight-stigmatized care methods that mean only certain diagnosis codes are covered, especially related to BMI and weight (see blog for my take on this). At WFW, we will work with your insurance to maximize your benefits and use proper coding to help ensure that your visits are covered, but we do not believe BMI is a useful or even accurate measurement, and we promise to always focus on the best weight-neutral care for your body.
-
We can send you a superbill to submit to your insurance if needed. A superbill is an enhanced receipt that tells your insurance what medical services were provided, by whom, and how much you paid so you can potentially get reimbursed (depending on your coverage). If nutrition services aren’t covered, see our pricing here.
-
Once you have an appointment scheduled, we will send a (small I promise) number of online questionnaires and forms to you through Practice Better. It will also prompt you to create a patient portal and from here you can safely and use a HIPAA compliant upload for any labwork you have or anything you would like to share!
-
Payment is due at the time of service and an invoice is sent directly to your email. Paper copies can also be requested. Your plan, even if it is with one of the above insurance companies, may or may not cover nutrition. If your insurance does not cover any or all of your appointment (such as in the case of unmet deductibles, uncovered services, etc.), we will send you an invoice for the balance. It is your responsibility to pay this upon receipt. We also work with you if needed for payment plans and sliding scale. I believe nutrition services should be accessible for everyone.
-
We would appreciate as much advance notice as possible when canceling or rebooking your appointment to respect our time as well as other client’s time. Please email or call at least 48 business hours in advance of your appointment if you need to cancel or reschedule.
If you cancel late or do not show up, there will be a 50% cancellation fee that is not billable to insurance. We will make personal exceptions for medical or family emergencies because life happens.
If you have any last-minute scheduling questions or you need to cancel your appointment, please call or text us at 425-298-7479, send an email to admin@wellfedwellness.com, or direct message your provider through your Practice Better portal.

A CNS is an advanced certification requiring a master's degree in nutrition, 1,000 supervised practice hours, and passing a rigorous board exam. CNS practitioners are trained in functional and integrative nutrition, nutrient biochemistry, and root-cause investigation—going far beyond basic dietary advice. We're qualified to interpret lab work, create therapeutic protocols, and work collaboratively with your medical team. This is different from health coaches or nutritionists without advanced credentials.
-
Lab testing is optional but highly recommended for complex cases. I know that you’ve seen countless doctors, and have been told everything is fine even when you’re feeling drained. Testing helps us get to the real answers sooner. During our initial consultation, I'll assess whether testing would be beneficial for your specific situation. Common tests include SIBO breath tests ($200-300), comprehensive stool analysis ($300-400), food sensitivity panels ($300-500), and blood work for metabolic and thyroid markers (often covered by insurance if ordered by your doctor). I only recommend testing that will meaningfully inform your treatment plan—never unnecessary tests. And by no means are they required!
-
A: Most approaches treat symptoms superficially without investigating WHY you're experiencing them. Generic probiotics don't address SIBO. Elimination diets don't heal leaky gut. Anti-anxiety medication doesn't fix nutrient deficiencies affecting neurotransmitter production. I use functional testing to identify the actual root cause of your symptoms, then create a personalized protocol addressing YOUR specific imbalances. This is precision nutrition based on YOUR biochemistry, not a generic plan hoping something sticks.
-
Three key differences: (1) Root-cause investigation using functional testing and advanced assessment tools—not guessing or generic advice. (2) Expertise in the gut-brain-metabolism connection—I understand how these systems interact and impact each other. (3) Personalized protocols based on YOUR biochemistry, genetics, lifestyle, and health history. Plus, I know Seattle intimately—from the best local labs and supplement sources to restaurant guides and grocery store strategies. You get science-based nutrition that actually fits your real life in Seattle.
Nutrition Care FAQ
-
A CNS is a board certified nutrition professional who has met educational and professional standards and has passed a board exam as well as undergone 1000 supervised clinical hours. All you need to know is that I am very passionate about nutrition and offering the best research-and-heart backed advice.
-
It depends! Everyone is unique and I don’t work on a protocol or one-size-fits-all basis. Some people feel confident after a few sessions and some need more time. Send me an email or book a consultation call if you have any questions about your care needs.
-
I believe every body deserves care and trust and that health can be accomplished regardless of the number on a scale (which is just a measure of gravity anyways). I aim to take into account a whole person including any past experiences or events that have impacted them on their health and wellness journey. I will always let the client lead and make sure they feel comfortable in session.
-
I personally love a good seafood dish, anything from mussels to halibut.
-
This depends on your specific condition and how long you've been experiencing symptoms. Many clients notice improvements in energy and mental clarity within 2-3 weeks. Digestive symptoms often improve within 4-6 weeks as gut healing protocols take effect. Metabolic changes like weight loss and blood sugar balance typically show measurable results in 6-12 weeks. The 12-week program is designed to achieve significant transformation while building sustainable habits for lasting results.
-
My approach prioritizes food first, supplements second. When I recommend supplements, they're targeted, therapeutic, and time-limited—designed to address specific deficiencies or support healing protocols. Once your gut is healed and your body is functioning optimally, many people reduce or eliminate supplements entirely. I use professional-grade brands (not what you find at Costco) because quality matters, but I'm always mindful of budget and recommend cost-effective options. You'll never be pressured to buy products from me—I provide recommendations and you purchase wherever you prefer.
