International No Diet Day
Every year on May 6th, people around the world observe International No Diet Day (INDD)—a day dedicated to celebrating body diversity and acceptance, challenging diet culture, and promoting a more intuitive way of eating and living. First established in 1992 by British feminist Mary Evans Young, the day encourages us to rethink the way we view our bodies and the pressures of dieting. Even if it’s on a Tuesday aka the longest day of the week. I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on where you are in your nutrition journey and where you have been. If you’ve personally been impacted by diet culture, I encourage you to share your story (even if it’s just to your animals) and to engage in some joyful eating today!
Today is a day to celebrate how far we’ve come as a culture but also recognize how far we have to go. In a world constantly flooded with “what I eat in a day” stories, calorie-counting apps, and unrealistic beauty standards, No Diet Day serves as a refreshing reminder that health doesn’t come in one size, and worth isn’t measured by weight. It’s a day to eat intuitively, honor your body, and recognize that restrictive dieting can often do more harm than good—both physically and mentally.
Whether you're enjoying your favorite meal with loved ones or simply reflecting on your relationship with food and body image, today is about compassion, not criticism. Let’s use this opportunity to support body positivity, fight fatphobia, and affirm that all bodies are worthy of love and care. Today—and every day—your body deserves kindness. Remember to reach out if you need support!
